First Appointment Procedure
When you come into our office for the first time, (usually already having completed the medical history and patient information) you will be greeted by one of our doctors or assistants and interviewed privately in our consulting office. The doctor will talk with you about the challenges you have had in the past and what your specific fears are. After the doctor has reviewed your medical history with you and addressed any concerns you wish to discuss,a visual exam of your teeth will be completed. After the completion of that examination they will order the necessary x-rays to diagnose and recommend a treatment plan. Normally, we ask for a few days to give the doctor time to read the x-rays and recommend treatment. However, we have a significant number of patients who travel to see us. We make every effort to schedule appointments for the initial visit in the morning and have those patients from out of town return in the afternoon for the consultation visit. We want to avoid, if possible, having you travel more than necessary. We have found that many of our patients find it helpful at this second visit to bring with them a spouse or someone with whom they feel secure. It is at this time that we will discuss your insurance benefits (if indeed you have insurance) and present the options for your choice of treatment as well as discuss finances.

About Your Sedation Visit
You will be given a small pill to take an hour prior to your dental appointment. We ask that a friend or family member accompany you to the office. By the time you arrive, you will be very drowsy. You will be escorted into the comfort room, covered with a thick, warm blanket and placed on a monitor to watch your vital signs. After you are comfortable, your doctor and the experienced clinical team at Sedation Dental Care will take care of your dental needs. When your treatment is completed, your companion or care taker will escort you home to finish your comfortable, relaxing day.

1-2 Appointments or 8-10?
General dentistry is very time consuming. Patients with complex dental problems are often depressed when told it will take 8-10 appointments over a period of several months to fix their teeth. This type of plan most often ends in failure for fearful patients who have been hurt by dentists in the past. They will go for one or two appointments to get out of pain and abandon the remaining treatment until they are in pain again. Many of you are well familiar with this scenario since you have gone through it several times. This results in a lifetime of pain and an inability to smile due to embarrassment . Sedation Dental Care enables us to complete the entire treatment in 1 or 2 appointments instead of 8 or 10. With this sedation you will feel like you have slept through your dental appointment.

Note:
Your concentration during your sedation is to relax and let our team and the medication take care of you. Our goal is to have you feel comfortable and well cared for. Medicines work differently for different people. The majority of our patients rest, snore, dream and then awaken to little or no memory of their appointments. Some people sleep more lightly than others, yet are comfortable during the appointment. Trust us to keep you our #1 priority. We are the happiest when you are happy. We call this our win-win theory. We look forward to completing your dental treatment in a comfortable, precise, and effective manner. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to ask a member of the Sedation Dental Care Team. You may call us at any time at 919-783-9686.
